Dr. Bremner is Director of the Emory Clinical Neuroscience Research Unit (ECNRU)
and Director of Mental Health Research at the Atlanta VA Medical Center.
He has written over 200 publications and lectures frequently on the topics of changes in the brain
in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression and other trauma-related disorders. His research is
funded by NIH, VA, and foundations. Books include Brain Imaging Handbook and Does Stress
Damage the Brain? and (as co-Editor) Posttraumatic Stress Disorder: A Comprehensive Text.
Dr. Bremner is part of the Emory Predictive Health Initiative (PHI) and the
Center for Health Discovery and Well Being (CHD&WB). He believes that taking charge of
one's physical and mental health, as well as spiritual well being, before health is
compromised, is the key to preserving health in the future, and fixing America's
broken health care system.
A forthcoming book is Before You Take That Pill: How to Safely Take the Most Commonly Prescribed
Vitamins, Supplements, and Medications. Did you know that vitamins cause cancer? Or that drugs for
the prevention of osteoporosis make your bones more brittle? Or that anti-cholesterol statin drugs have no
health benefits for heart disease prevention in women? Did you know that it has never
been shown that drugs to prevent diabetes or heart disease are better (or even as good as)
just changing what you eat and your activity level? You can read about these topics and more.
